Mr. Ruchir Sharma, Head of Emerging Markets, Morgan Stanley

Ruchir Sharma became a Managing Director at Morgan Stanley at the age of 28, and is currently head of emerging markets in the company, a position which lends him a truly global perspective and first-hand experience of the world as well as affording him unique access to top CEOs, key finance ministers and heads of state. He has been writing for the Economic Times of India since the age of 17, and is an occasional television commentator on CNBC and a regular columnist for Newsweek and the Wall Street Journal. He has travelled the world in search of countries that display early signs of political stability and economic health,
making them attractive investments.

In India, he is part of a group of about 20 people which includes some of the country’s best known journalists, who have been making pilgrimages together for nearly 14 years now to watch closely the working of Indian democracy. This bunch travel in a group, meet the country’s biggest politicians on their turf and chat with voters in a bid to predict the people’s verdict. The group spent four days in Uttar Pradesh recently, felt the electoral pulse and huddled in private meetings with such diverse politicians as Mulayam Singh Yadav, his son Akhilesh Yadav, Rajnath Singh, Digvijaya Singh and Arun Jaitley. The group briefly met Mayawati and attended rallies of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
